Rap-Up recently caught up with the “Player” singer at a Bud Light Party in L.A., where she revealed after a few touch ups the album is on its way. She hasn’t finalized the track listing yet, but she did say that her single, “Party Favors” will be on the list. She also added that she’s been working on the album since 2015. “The majority of the album was recorded even before 2016. It was mostly recorded in 2015. The heart of the album still remains the same and then I’m still just adding little tidbits, little touches, anything that inspires me throughout this year,” she said.
And while she may have a Young Thug collaboration on there, Tinashe is going the solo route with not too many cameos on the project. “As of right now, I’m kind of not really leaning towards more feature-heavy. I’m leaning more towards not going that route, but it’s still a possibility,” she noted.
You can tell she has been putting in a lot of work on this upcoming project, which led her to even cancel her Joyride World Tour earlier this year. “Obviously you feel bad for letting anyone down, so pushing back any part of the tour was really hard for me,” she admitted. “I feel like it was honestly the right thing to do. I was able to create some really amazing stuff in the last couple months for the album. Now I think it’s in an amazing place.”
And like any true artist, she takes pride in having a say in anything she puts her name to. Her new video directed by Hannah Lux Davis for “Superlove” is set to debut today (Aug. 12).
“It’s really important to be hands on in the creative process for everything, from the visuals to the music,” she explained. “I think visuals are a great part, as an artist, to be able to showcase, especially my dance ability because I’ve been dancing my whole life. I’m excited to have that be a part of the video.”
