T.I. was in hot water yesterday after he offered his rather archaic view on women running for U.S. presidency.
Probed about Hillary Clinton’s campaign, the rapper stated that he was against a woman becoming “the leader of the free world,” because “women make rash decisions emotionally,” which could apparently lead to prematurely setting off a “nuke. TMZ caught up with one women in particular – his wife Tameka “Tiny” Harris – and asked if Tip is sexist. While Tiny did say that she believes her husband’s remarks were “in bad taste,” she also said his commentary may have been misdirected.
“Sometimes [he’s sexist]. He just lives in the old ‘man take care of woman,’ chivalry-type thing. I didn’t hear it, but I would hope he was joking. He might’ve been thinking about me at the time. He just wants to be the man. He wants to take care of everything, and he want the woman to be a woman and be treated like a princess. Sometimes I do [agree with him], I can’t say that I don’t. But I also think that a woman has the right to do just as much as a man.”
T.I. later apologized for his comments via Twitter, calling them unequivocally insensitive and wrong. But if you are not privy to his initial statements, here’s what he told DJ Whoo Kid in a recent interview:
“Not to be sexist but, I can’t vote for the leader of the free world to be a woman,” he said. “Just because, every other position that exists, I think a woman could do well. But the president? It’s kinda like, I just know that women make rash decisions emotionally – they make very permanent, cemented decisions – and then later, it’s kind of like it didn’t happen, or they didn’t mean for it to happen. And I sure would hate to just set off a nuke. [Other leaders] will not be able to negotiate the right kinds of foreign policy; the world ain’t ready yet. I think you might be able to the Loch Ness Monster elected before you could [get a woman].”
