In an episode on T.I.’s new podcast ExpediTIously that was uploaded last Friday (Oct. 4), rapper T.I. and room full of hip hop heads discussed the Trap Music Museum list of the 50 greatest rappers of all time. Halfway through the conversation, The Trap Muzik rapper and his colleagues bartered theories as to why Nicki Minaj did not make the top 50 list.
“It’s between Lil’ Kim and Nicki [Minaj],” Tip said. “I don’t think we can have both because they are a direct reflection of one another.” After someone said that Nicki wouldn’t be where she is today without Lil Kim, T.I. agreed. “She [Nicki] is one of the biggest-selling artists of all time and I salute that. Impact, impact, impact.”

Yeah yeah we know we all about the TRAP MUSIC culture, but without RAP we are nothing… When it comes to the case of TOP 50 rap artists, here’s our list! Based on the Rapper’s overall impact and influence to Rap culture. We aren’t JUST talking about best lyricist, most record sales, most streams, largest fan base or longevity, but we are talking about OVERALL IMPACT on this thing of ours… #trapmusicmuseum #escapethetrap #liltraphouse #rap #hiphop #top50
After their intense deliberation, T.I. and his crew decided on their top choice for the sole woman on their list. “Alright, so, this is what we will be doing, for the slot after Bun B, we have Lil Kim or Nicki Minaj,” Tip proclaimed. “All in favor of Lil Kim? Alright, well, this is unanimous. The entire table voted for Lil Kim. Let her have the slot. The committee has spoken.”
After much debate, The Trap Museum list didn’t include Lil Kim nor Nicki Minaj. Lauryn Hill makes the list at No. 16.
