It’s finally here. Travis Scott dropped his highly-anticipated studio album Astroworld on Friday (Aug. 3). The album features 17 tracks and guest appearances from Drake and Frank Ocean.
Just days ahead of the album’s release, a number of giant monuments of Scott’s head mysteriously appeared in the rapper’s hometown of Houston. It was later revealed that the head was a replica of the one that was illustrated on his album cover. Scott later unveiled the artwork, which alluded to a twisted theme park of some sort.
In addition to the album cover and promotional activations, the artist released a trippy trailer. The 2-minute teaser features the rapper walking through a foreign detention seemingly destroyed by comets. The video also includes a snippet of “Stargazing,” one of the tracks on the album.
Astroworld was originally slated to be a follow-up to Travis’ 2015 debut album Rodeo, but was ultimately pushed back. Instead, he released the 2016 project, Birds in the Trap Sing Brian McKnight, which garnered critical acclaim.
In a recent FaceTime interview with Zane Lowe on Monday (July 30), Scott spoke about the album’s creation. “Astroworld’s been set in stone since Rodeo,” Scott said in the interview. “My whole idea was if you locked in to Rodeo, you definitely locked into Astroworld. I’m just finishing the saga I started on my first album. This is supposed to be my second album. I had to go quick, because like I said, I had all these ideas, I just had to get off real quick, but now I’m finally back home with Astroworld.”
