Travis Scott continues to push the extent of his creative output. For his Astroworld album rollout, the Houston native dreamed up a tour that puts concertgoers right in the middle of the “Upper Echelon” rapper’s personal theme park. Now, for his next musical attraction, Scott might look to Broadway for inspiration.
During a sit-down on Ellen (Nov. 12), the father-of-one discussed his time in theater as a young student, recalling the memory of him singing in a play called “Kiss Me, Kate.” After belting out a show-tune titled “Too Darn Hot” for the audience, Scott said he might set his sights on playwriting. “I was thinking my next album should be, I do a play for a whole week somewhere, and design a whole play around my album.”
In a previous interview with Beats 1’s Zane Lowe, Scott said he’s been in go-time mode since 2015’s Rodeo album. “Astroworld’s been set in stone since Rodeo. My whole idea was if you locked into Rodeo, you definitely locked into Astroworld,” he said. “I’m just finishing the saga I started on my first album. This is supposed to be my second album. I had to go quick, because like I said, I had all these ideas, I just had to get off real quick, but now I’m finally back home with Astroworld.”
