12 Strong takes you inside a time capsule back to the harsh days post 9/11. Its storyline centers on a special mission where 12 men on horses helped combat terrorist groups (the Taliban and Al-Qaeda), led by the group’s Captain Mitch Nelson (Chris Hemsworth).
Nelson and his team battle in the dangerous northern region of Afghanistan where they have to convince General Rashid Dostum (Navid Negahban) to surrender, but in the midst of the war and violence, there’s a story about tolerance, camaraderie and acceptance.
These messages are illustrated through soldier Ben Milo (Trevante Rhodes) as viewers see him bond with an Afghan boy. It’s a pivotal component to the film as it gives it a touch of humanity amid the darkness and sorrow that engulf war.
“He has this tender relationship with one of the kids…the most important thing to me is staying as true to the real story as possible, the story of true human beings,” Rhodes says in a behind-the-scenes clip of the movie.
