A Tribe Called Quest’s long awaited final album has a name, and we know who’s going to be featured on it.
Thanks to the New York Times, the title was revealed as We Got It From Here, Thank You For Your Service.
It was a name that the four original members agreed on for the album, which is set to released on November 11. This was actually a title that the late Phife Dawg came up with. No one quite understood what it meant, but Q-Tip says that they are sticking with it in Phife’s honor. Talk about loyalty.
Previously, Phife was working on a solo-album which includes currently-released single, Nutshell — before his untimely passing. Q-Tip took a self-imposed sabbatical in which he remained celibate for about a year, studied music theory, and indulged himself in reading Duke Ellington’s “Music Is My Mistress,” Toni Morrison’s “Song of Solomon,” and George Orwell’s “1984.” While, Ali Shaheed scored original Marvel-Netflix series, Luke Cage.
Even though throughout this nearly 2-decade span, Phife pressed the group about doing another album, it wasn’t until after their Jimmy Fallon performance that it came together. We said it before, and we’ll say it again: this album is fate coming to fruition.
From Phife patching up his and Q’s relationship to the crew flying back and forth between Jersey and Oakland to record, the transcendental moments shared in Tip’s home studio for the album is what we have been waiting for. Kendrick Lamar, Andre 3000, Jack White, and Elton John are all featured on the LP.
