Last week (Nov. 9), Tru Life dropped his first project in 11 years with Walking On Water via Mogul Tree/EMPIRE.
Boasting Tru’s renewed energy and unparalleled tenacity, Walking on Water runs at a modest 37 minutes. Lead by singles “Baddie” and “Cause I Can,” the 11-track album features cuts from hip-hop’s new school including Don Q, Tory Lanez and Dave East, while also featuring verses from heavy-hitters like Rick Ross, T.I. and Future.
A well-known talent in NYC rap circles, Tru Life is deeply connected to the rap game. Signing to Jimmy Iovine’s Interscope Records as a teenager, Tru later caught the attention of Jay Z before signing to Roc-A-Fella and sharing his 2007 mixtape Tru York.
Born Roberto Guzmán Rosado, Jr., Tru Life was sentenced to eight years for a fatal stabbing in 2011. He was released in 2016 after serving five years of his sentence. Taking some time to adapt to his freedom, make up for lost time with his wife and kids and study the changes the rap game has gone through over the last decade, Tru Life is back and here to stay with Walking On Water.
