Former Cosby Show actor Geoffrey Owens was shamed after photos of him were taken bagging groceries inside a Trader Joe’s, and as quickly as some tried to laugh and make fun, others rallied behind the 57-year-old for earning an honest living.
Owens appeared on Good Morning America Tuesday morning (Sept. 4) and while speaking with Robin Roberts thanked family, friends, every online and the Hollywood community for their support.
With the new found fame, Roberts asked Owens if he’s received any calls for roles and Owens said he would only accept a role if he was the best fit for the job.
“I know this might sound weird, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable getting acting jobs from this event. I wouldn’t mind getting auditions. I wouldn’t mind if people called me in to try out for things due to what’s happened, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable with someone giving me a job because this happened. I want to get the job because I’m the right person.”
Tyler Perry, who’s always been vocal about the hard times he endured before his success, heard of what happened to Owens and offered him an opportunity.
#GeoffreyOwens I’m about to start shootings OWN’s number one drama next week! Come join us!!! I have so much respect for people who hustle between gigs. The measure of a true artist.

At the time of this post, it hasn’t been confirmed if Owens took Perry up on his offer or even knows Perry made the offer. Either way, we’re glad this situation has proven there’s still good left in the world.
