With new stamps in his passport, J. Cole returned to New York City this week for a private concert put on by Heineken Red Star and Roc Nation.
Last night (Aug 9), VIBE caught up with Cole minutes prior to his performance at the Bowery Ballroom in downtown Manhattan. Though the release of his debut album, Cole World: The Sideline Story (Sept. 27), is less than a month away, there’s still one feature that hasn’t been turned in yet.
“I’m texting this man everyday,” joked the NC native regarding the status of his pending Jay-Z feature. “It might happen—he’s got like four or five days. It’s like a Christmas present—I just want it to come. I’m not harassing this man, anymore.”
While Cole says he won’t be heading out on the upcoming Watch The Throne tour with Hov and Kanye, the young gun will be headlining his own international set.
“I’m got my own tour starting at the end of August in Canada, then the States in Sept—UK in October, November, December.”
Cole’s gig as the opener on Rihanna’s LOUD tour may have had a lasting effect on the MC. Jay’s secret weapon confirmed that he just shot the music video for his next single, “Can’t Get Enough (feat. Trey Songz),” in the popstar’s homeland of Barbados. Twitpics also surfaced of Trey Songz, Cole and RihRih on set. The lanky rapper described the shoot as simply “big pimpin, boy. For real.”
Thirsty fans will also be pleased to hear that Cole’s Any Given Sunday new music releases will continue with the spontaneity that kicked things off two Sundays ago.
“It’s pretty random. I got a couple I know I’ma do already, says Cole regarding upcoming guest features on his Any Given Sunday series. “I wake up like ‘what do I want to put out today.’
“So it’s not always going to be five songs, three songs. Like this week coming up might just be a song. The week after that it might just be a video.”
J.Cole’s Roc Nation debut drops on September 27.
