VIBE’s Daily Additions to the ‘Pod
1. Alicia Keys – “Unlock Yourself”
Alicia’s voice on this The Journals of Mama Mae & LeeLee inspired song—her newly released storytelling app—sounds serene, but at points a bit breathy. One thing we can say is, “Unlock Yourself” is pleasant enough to get kids to inspire to be great—or at the very least take their ass somewhere quietly to sit down. Baby Egypt will definitely get a kick out of his mom’s lullaby voice on this one though.
2. 9th Wonder & Buckshot – “Stop Rapping”
The best of boom-bap right here. We have to send our respect to these dudes for keeping that classic hip-hop sound alive.
3. Q Parker (feat. Styles P) – “Better”
This is definitely a smooth track. The beat is somewhat similar to 40’s production on the Aaliyah/Drake collaboration “Enough Said.” Overall, this is a good song to unwind to after a long week.
4. Jae Millz – “Grind All Day”
The lyrical content is lacking a bit, but the beats goes off. This isn’t a bad song at all, but Millz just could’ve come harder with his bars
5. Asaad – #TROY (EP)
The EP features nine diversified tracks for a smooth 25-minute listening, inducing previously released cut “Raekwon Rap” and “Fall Back.” The only feature on the EP is fellow Philly rapper Grande Marshall on the “Talk My Shit” remix and production includes credits from Asaad, Nascent, QB, Sunny Norway & more.
