VIBE’s Daily Additions to the ‘Pod
1. Big Boi (feat. Kelly Rowland) – “Mama Told Me”
We’re not used to Big Boi doing upbeat tracks, unless he’s being accompanied by a dude who’s last name is 3000. This one right here is pretty cool, and Kelly’s falsettos are on point.
2. ZZ Ward (feat. Kendrick Lamar) – “Cryin Wolf”
The surprising (or not so surprising) star of this collaboration is definitely K. Dot. While ZZ’s sass and powerful vocals are definitely top notch, rapping so effortlessly over a genre-bender like this one puts Kendrick in a class of his own. Good stuff.
3. Prodigy – “Medicine Man”
Prodigy’s flow doesn’t miss a beat one bit, but The Alchemist’s production really outshines everything else. That man is a beast in the lab, and “Medicine Man” proves that.
4. Ashanti (feat. R.Kelly) – “That’s What We Do”
Hopefully these two don’t let this one drift off into “R&B outer space.” Both Kellz & Ashanti are vocally on point, and after a second listen it’s actually not a bad duet overall.
5. Rome Fortune (feat. Trinidad Jame$) – “Cocaine Present”
A few things about this are a bit off. For one, it definitely should be a bit longer. Also, the first minute (or first half of the song we should say) really sounds uninspired from a lyrical standpoint. The beat is chill though, which serves as an interesting musical tidbit.
