VIBE’s Daily Additions to the ‘Pod
1. Juelz Santana (feat. Fabolous, Meek Mill & Rick Ross) – “Soft”
Don’t expect any groundbreaking lyricism on this one, but it’s definitely interesting hearing this mix of rappers trading verses on one track.
2. Avant – “Best Friends”
Avant entertains the idea of “making your opposite your best friend” on this smooth love ballad. Vocally, he hasn’t lost a thing, however the subject matter is a bit ‘vanilla.’ This is a respectable contemporary listen overall.
3. Willow Smith – “Sugar & Spice”
Willow isn’t afraid to get emo on her latest musical effort. “Sugar & Spice” isn’t the sweet pop song that the title might suggest. In actuality, the dark piano keys, melancholy vocals, and lyrics about “monsters under the bed” tell a deeper story than what’s given off on the surface. We definitely commend young Smith on being so vulnerable with her delivery on this one.
4. Rome Fortune – “Balcony”
The production on “Balcony” brings to mind the best of 90s house party music, only a more slowed down, distorted version of it. It’s hard to place it, but the sound itself is pretty dope.
The Kid Daytona – “Glass Table Girls (Remix)”
On one of The Weeknd’s illest tunes, Daytona’s added flow fits in pretty well. However, it does prove that the production sounds better when paired with Abel’s equally haunting vocals.
