The swaggy samurai cover art of SayKnowledge’s debut Vibe Called Quest (dropping on January 15th, 2013 on Heavy Keys Records) caught our eye and then the album’s sounds grabbed our hip-hop heads. Representing the Bay Area in Cali, the young’n is on that J.Cole/Kendrick Lamar wordplay, flow and detailed subject matter. Right now the easy listening, jazzy-hop sounds provided by producers Mars Today and Mikos, are the perfect compliment to Say’s speedy yet slick display of verses. He’ll wrap lines around the beat and still catch the tempo and maintain cruise control. Once he masters this skill (with his unique voice) he’ll be the next big artist out of the left coast. Here is his first leak from the project titled “Lap Up”. It’s a playful extension to the idea of Notorious BIG’s “Ladies/My Mercedes, holds four in the back/two if ya fat…” theme. Be on the look out for the video next week. SayKnowledge says: “Quest” is essentially the ill in all life. All previous, all future. “Quest” is soul medicine, I offer the sugar to help the message go down. “Vibe Called Quest” is dedicated to those who recognize the ill in their own journey, regardless of intended destination.” Twitter: SayKnowledge “Lap Up” sayknowledge – Lap Up by MarsToday
