The weekend has finally arrived and history is about to be made in Brooklyn when the first ever Sensations US event will be held at Barclays Center, Friday and Saturday. VIBE has thee 411 on the ultimate dance party. Here are the Top Five things you need to know about this year’s biggest “Sensation:”
#1. History of Sensation— Why Dress in White?
In 2000, the first Sensation took place at the Amsterdam Arena and surprisingly attracted 20,000 clubbers. Because the Stutterheim brothers noticed a huge success from the event, they decided to keep throwing parties only to continue making them bigger and better over time.
Just before the second installment, one of the ID&T co-founders, Miles Stutterheim, passed away in a tragic car accident at the young age of 25. As a way to pay tribute to his brother, Duncan Stutterheim asked attendees to dress in white, just as people did at Miles’ funeral, to celebrate with a party in honor of his life.
#2. It’s all about the Production Value:
ID&T truly delivers an unforgettable experience through multiple production elements to create a euphoric night. There are five stages in the shape of a lotus leaf which contains multicolor LED lights displaying seven different colors to symbolize the seven stages of enlightenment. In order to allow the entire audience to enjoy the artists, the DJ is mounted on a rotating platform on top of the main stage.
In addition to the stages, ID&T helped to develop custom-made water fountains just for the “Innerspace” experience. These fountains stream a thin screen of water down in patterns, shapes and words synchronized with the show and music.
The Barclays center arena will be transformed from ceiling to floor, as dancers will be floating high above the crowd, twisting and turning while controlling fog machines and lasers on their arms. The girls won’t be the only objects hanging from the ceiling, as over 170 LED lit balls will move up and down creating the illusion of a moving ceiling.
#3. White Night:
Sensation has the reputation for being the classiest EDM event in the world. Because of this, guests must be 21 years of age or older to attend, and all white attire is mandatory. “Celebrate Life is about opening ourselves up. It’s about embracing new influences and being inspired by fresh talent from countries around the world.”
#4. DJs Last:
While Sensation’s reputation has grown, the music has evolved and taken on it’s own style. It’s not just about booking the biggest name DJ’s, it’s about discovering new and existing artists who will play the most cutting edge sounds of today and tomorrow.
Mr. White, Sensation’s host and warm-up DJ, will be performing both nights alongside Sensation superstar, Fedde Le Grand. Friday’s bill consists of New York’s Dennis Ferrer; and Joris Voorn, and Nic Fanciulli, who have been known to play some of the best back-to-back sets around. Saturday will host the legendary Mark Knight, another New York native, Danny Tenaglia, and techno old-timer, 2000 and One.
