Vic Mensa’s There’s A lot Going On is one of the few projects of 2016 that has important social themes throughout the EP. Over the weekend, the Chicago native revisited his project for the “16 Shots” visuals — a gripping song that carefully expresses his anger with Chicago police over the killing of 17-year-old Chicago resident, LaQuan McDonald.
Mensa takes on several groups of cops at different times. On the track, the Chicago rapper gets beat, hit with a Taser, and riddled with bullets. However, he doesn’t die. After all of the abuse that Mensa suffers, at the end of the video, he calmly walks up to the police officer who tried to murder him and simply lowers the officer’s gun.
It’s a powerful sign showing that Blacks just want peace.
