Vic Mensa took advantage of his time on stage to honor the life of Laquan McDonald. The Windy City rapper touched down in Flint, MI Sunday (Feb. 28) to perform at the event held by Creed Director Ryan Coogler — and Selma director Ava Duvernay’s in order to aid citizens who fell victim to lead poisoning due to the city’s negligence.
Powered by Revolt, #JusticeForFlint featured several major artists like Janelle Monae, Musiq Soulchild, Jazmine Sullivan and Stevie Wonder. Our man Vic hit the stage to spit bars from his Flint-friendly rendition of “U Mad.” Afterwards, the “Down On My Luck” MC opened up about how he felt about the tragic situation.

“I wanna say thanks for allowing me to stand with y’all. I feel very close to the situation. As soon as my man Ryan Coogler hit me up about it, I was like ‘say no more.’ I’ll jump on a flight and let’s rock because this shit is not right.”
The Chicago native went on to say that what’s going on in Flint is happening all over the country, especially in his own city. After Mensa offered to debut his new song “16 Shots,” in which he commemorates McDonald’s death with a bold title and galvanizing chorus.
