Songwriter to the stars, Victoria Monét, salutes the old school in the video for her latest single, “90’s Babies.” While the singer has scribed for the likes of Chris Brown and Ariana Grande, she’s coming into her own, especially after laying down vocals for collaborations with Nas and T.I., and releasing her 2014 EP, Nightmares & Lullabies – Act I.
As flashbacks of beloved sitcoms like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Kenan & Kel play alongside appearances from the Rugrats babies and Fubu gear, the visual, filmed from a Panasonic VHS camcorder, keeps the nostalgia flowing.
“When you’re watching the video I want you to say ‘ooh shoot, remember the Easy Bake Oven,’ or ‘oh, I remember I had the roller skate shoes,'” she says in a press release. “I want people to recall a time when we were outside playing before the street lights came on. Whatever the memory is for you, just to go back and smile about it.”
“90’s Babies” marks the first cut from her forthcoming EP, Nightmares & Lullabies: Act II. Reminisce on the best decade below.
