Earlier this week, Vince Staples announced he planned to release a musical project tackling themes like “Crips, Bloods, Eses, Asians, Dominicans, Puerto Rican’s, White Boys, Jamaicans.” Now, his new FM! album is here.
The 22-minute project is full of all-star collaborations and guest appearances from artists like Jay Rock, Ty Dolla $ign, E-40, Kehlani, Buddy, Kamaiyah, Tyga, and Earl Sweatshirt.
The LP also incorporated the essence of your favorite California FM radio station, including skits and interludes, and used hosts to introduce new songs and games.
The 11-track album features nine songs produced by Kenny Beats like “Tweakin'” with Vonnie, Buddy, and Kehlani about losing people to violence. “New earlsweatshirt (Interlude)” is the first time fans have heard the “Hive” rapper since 2015.
Staples originally announced the project on Monday (Oct. 29). He revealed it would arrive “this Friday,” and dedicated it to his fans in an Instagram post. “As artists, we are nothing without the fans,” he wrote. “I took time off from recording my next album to make a very special project dedicated to my biggest fan and supporter since day one.”
Along with releasing a new album, the 25-year-old dropped the first visual for “FUN!” from his most recent project.
