It might be the middle of 2016, but Waka Flocka is here to declare it his year and call out a few industry traditions in the process.
In his interview with Acton Entertainment, the rapper spills some details on Flockaveli 2 and why he’s not interested in following the trends in popular culture. When it comes to his new album, he doesn’t want any collabos. “My fans want that ‘Underground Flocka,’ ” he explained. “They don’t want me to be spicy and doing too much. They don’t want to see me with Jay Z on there, Kanye, Drake. That’s a compilation CD. To me, if you’re going to do an album, there should be no features on there– just you.”
After walking into a total “J.Cole went platinum with no features” joke, he guaranteed fans the album will be released in the fourth quarter, preferably, October.
He also discussed his qualms with record labels, explaining how Hip-Hop executives aren’t in tune with the artists because they aren’t hip to the culture. “Labels are using money that don’t even have, ” he said. “They’re just managing it. All you need is someone to invest in you. You don’t need a label. You need money. A label is for money, not for anything else. Who better than to market yourself than you?”
The rapper doesn’t mind many are growing keen to his “evolution.” Flocka has stayed strong on his stance on Donald Trump, police brutality and his crossover to electronic music.

“I’m a real n***a,” he explained. “If I eat oranges, I’m a real n***a. If I go jogging with Wilt Chamberlain shorts on, I’m a real n***a. It doesn’t matter what I’m doing. I am who I am no matter where I’m at.”
In addition to taking on the world one record at a time, the rapper wishes he can remove corporations from the music industry in an effort to maintain the culture. “Music isn’t a corporation,” he said. “It’s not for venture capitalists. To me, if you don’t live the culture, why do you work in it? If you don’t know sh*t about Hip-Hop, why do you work for Hip-Hop? There’s men rocking hush puppies telling me they run a label. You drink wine coolers. How are you going to tell me to be a real n***a?”
