Wale is no stranger to the White House. Late 2015, “The Matrimony” rapper attended a meeting on gun control, and later shared a panel with First Lady Michelle Obama, former Education Secretary Arnie Duncan, and E! News host Terrence Jenkins. There, the 31-year-old artist discussed the importance of higher education and how attending college impacted his life for the better.
“College, to me, was like taking the training wheels off life,” he said. Now in the New Year, it was only right that the D.C. representer made history as the first rapper to open a State of the Union, MTV reports. Tuesday night’s address (Jan. 12) was also a memorable one since it’s President Barack Obama’s last national speech in the United States Capitol building.

During his appearance at the White House, where he performed his chart-topping melody “Love Hate Thing,” Wale also had a chat with Vice President Joe Biden, who said that he wants to recruit the MMG lyricist for his team.
