It seems like President Barack Obama and FLOTUS are hosting a music festival of their own.
Back in March, the Obamas presided over the stage at SXSW. Michelle Obama’s keynote speech featured the likes of Sophia Bush, Diane Warren, Missy Elliott and was hosted by Queen Latifah. Apparently, our country’s First Family enjoyed their experience so much at SXSW that they decided to emulate a small version of it in their backyard.
The one-day event will take place on October 3 at the White House, reports NPR. The showcase will be called South by South Lawn, and will cover art, music and film just like SXSW does. “Musical performances will include well-known and emerging artists who are using their music to inspire audiences,” states the White House website.
The event is being produced in coordination with SXSW, American Film Institute (AFI), C3 Presents, and the President’s Committee on Arts and Humanities (PCAH). The organizers of the event will be accepting online petitions on who should attend the festival through Sept. 10 at 5 p.m. EST.
