Fans continue to mourn the loss of 20-year-old rapper XXXTentacion who was fatally shot after leaving a motor company in Deerfield Beach, Florida on June 18. In honor of his memory and legacy, fans held a vigil at the scene of the shooting on Tuesday (June 19).
Dozens of fans flocked to the location outside of RIVE Motorsports to pay their respects to the later rapper. Many brought offerings of flowers, photos and candles. Others showed their adoration by throwing up the “X” sign as well as coloring the sidewalk with heartfelt notes, lyrics, and drawings.
As previously reported, XXX – born Jaseh Onfroy – was shot several times before he was rushed to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. His attorney, David Bogenschutz, said he believes his client was a victim of a random robbery, as the two assailants reportedly stole a Louis Vuitton bag out of his car. “I think the determination was that he wanted to buy a motorcycle. But [detectives] aren’t discounting any theory,” Bogenschutz explained. Police reportedly suspect two people were involved shooting, one of which ultimately killed the rapper. They are reportedly offering $3,000 to anyone with information about the incident.
Following the news of his passing, a number of celebrities including Kanye West, J. Cole, and Kendrick Lamar offered their condolences on social media. Artists like Tory Lanez also paid tribute to the rapper onstage during live performances. X’s music has also boosted on the charts and streaming services in the past 24 hours.
