Musicians such as YG and Schoolboy Q are reportedly pushing back their scheduled album releases out of respect for Nipsey Hussle. Representatives from Interscope Records have confirmed the news to VIBE.
Per a suggestion from Carl Chery, Creative Director and Head of Urban at Spotify, a “moment of silence” will be held as artists pay their respects. YG, who posted a heartfelt tribute to his fallen friend, revealed that he had plans to release a surprise album next week (April 12). However, per a tweet, the Long Beach rapper’s album will now drop in May.
“Pushing it to May, Sorry! LONG LIVE @NipseyHussle my brother from the other color!” he wrote. MGK shared a similar sentiment, writing on Twitter, “We were dropping first song off the album Friday, but out of respect for Nip, we’re gonna stay silent this week.”
Schoolboy Q, who wrote that he’s choosing to grieve Hussle’s loss in private, said on his Instagram Story that he will also be participating in delaying the release of his new song in order to “start a fresh week.”
“Me and [Anthony ‘Top Dawg’ Tiffith] was, like, talking about this the other day… this is not something we should be doing, you know what I mean?” he said. “Everybody don’t understand… some people get it, and that’s what’s up.”
