Nearly two full weeks after he was shot in his native Compton, California, YG is quick to show not only where he was shot but detail how the random occurrence has fueled some of his new music.
The 25-year-old rapper sat down in an exclusive interview with Billboard, sans crutches and stated that he’s “hard to kill” after being shot once but receiving three gunshot wounds as result of a bullet going in and out of his hip. “I got lucky because a main artery is there, right around the groin,” he said. “The bullet didn’t go that deep and it didn’t hit any bones.”

After staying overnight in a Los Angeles hospital, the My Krazy Life rapper admitted that the first thing he did was go back to the studio to finish up work on his sophomore album, Still Krazy. Despite a short stint in the hospital, plenty of well wishers called him and gave him their support, namely Boosie Badazz.
“It was not gang-related at all,” he told Billboard. “It just happened out of the blue. We don’t know who did it, we don’t know why. We don’t know nothing.”
Elsewhere in the Billboard interview, YG discusses how ups and downs only forced him to create positives out of negative situations, his current relationship with DJ Mustard, the sound of Still Krazy, the backlash to getting shot and more.
Billboard: How are you feeling now?
YG: I’m good. I left the hospital that night, and the next day I went back to the studio. Nobody wanted me to go. My mama tells me, “What are you talking about ‘going to the studio?’” But you know, I got shit to do — this shit don’t stop for nobody. I came straight to the studio on my little crutches.Billboard: You’re a tough guy.
YG: Yeah. I’m hard to kill.
