Legendary artist and activist Yoko Ono was hospitalized in New York Friday evening (Feb. 26) after facing dehydration.
The health scare was originally reported as a stroke, which her publicist Elliot Mintz denied. Speaking with CNN, Mintz explained that her admittance was just a precaution. “Her doctor thought it would be a good idea for her to get checked,” he said.
Ono, 83, is the widow of iconic singer-songwriter John Lennon. The couple wed in 1969 until the singer’s death in 1980. Her son Sean Ono Lennon also refuted claims of anything other than dehydration to fans on Twitter.
Hey guys it was only rumors from press: was NOT a stroke, just dehydration/tired. She is FINE. Thank you everyone for your concern @yokoono

He also added a sweet joke about his mom in the process.
Only stroke @yokoono had was a Stroke of Genius! 🙂 She's really fine. Thanks for all the well wishes! Big Love, Sean

Another rep for Ono said she is “alert and talking.” Ono recently traveled to London to attend the 2016 NME Awards to receive the “NME Inspiration” Award and appeared to be in good spirits. Currently, the artist is promoting her “Land of Hope” exhibit at Mexico City’s Memory and Tolerance Museum.
Her rep says Ono is expected to leave the hospital today (Feb 27.)
