Good sportsmanship is alive and well in the music biz. Last night at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis came out on top. The duo went home with four shiny new gramophones for Best New Artist, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song and Best Rap Album. While Twitter was plenty irritated about Macklemore’s genre sweep, it was the latter win that struck a personal nerve for him.
As any Grammy winner would be, Macklemore was visibly ecstatic about his awards, but honestly felt that his fellow rap peer, Kendrick Lamar, was slighted. He took the time to set the record straight on who truly deserved last night’s praise for Best Rap Album and make it crystal clear that he and K.Dot are on good terms.
“My text to Kendrick after the show. He deserved best rap album… I’m honored and completely blown away to win anything much less 4 Grammys. But in that category, he should have won IMO. And that’s taking nothing away from The Heist. Just giving GKMC it’s proper respect.. With that being said, thank you to the fans. You’re the reason we were on that stage tonight. And to play Same Love on that platform was a career highlight. The greatest honor of all. That’s what this is about. Progress and art. Thank you. #grammys“
Earlier in the night, Macklemore shared another text exchange with Kendrick where they hyped each other up for the big night and congratulated one another on a successful year.
