Metro Boomin got Twitter talking on Monday (Nov. 9) with his analysis of rap artists dropping multiple mixtapes. Suggesting that the method was most recently popularized by Future and that other artists are attempting to take a page from his playbook, the 22-year-old producer’s commentary was seen as a slight by some fans to other purveyors of classic mixtapes, such as Lil Wayne and Gucci Mane. After stirring up the conversation, Metro Boomin concluded that Future’ recipe for success is not one-size-fits-all.
“Moral of the story is, putting out 5 tapes in a year won’t make you heat up like Future. That was just his path. It’s not for everyone,” he wrote.
One rapper in particular took offense to Metro Boomin’s Twitter rant: Young Thug – who released the joint Metro Thuggin project with the producer. Taking the commentary as a reference to his three mixtape released this year, the Atlanta rapper questioned Metro Boomin. He also took a shot at Future, remarking that the “Rotation” rapper is the Tito to his Michael Jackson.
