Young Thug has mastered the art of relevancy by creating a steady stream of projects flowing to eager fans. Coming off the high of the recent release, Slime Language that hit streaming services in August, the 28-year-old rapper dropped a new EP to tide fans over.
On The Rvn made its debut Monday morning (Sept. 24), weeks after the Atlantic Records artist teased the EP on social media. The six-song extended play features a star-studded line up of rappers and singers that help drive this tracklist home.
With the help of 6lack and London On Da Track, Thug takes a softer approach to “Climax” by creating a solid groove about heartbreak. Jaden Smith appears on “Sin,” a mid-tempo track that adds spice to this 21-minute recording. But the single that stands out the most is “High,” a track created in collaboration with Elton John that puts a fresh spin on his 1972 classic “Rocket Man.”
On the Rvn makes its introduction just three weeks after TMZ reported that Young Thug would face possible jail time. He was charged with eight felonies, stemming from charges he accumulated in September 2017.
Though it’s unclear if On The Rvn may be the last body of work we receive from Thug in his upcoming month of sentencing, the EP’s artwork does provide commentary on his unfortunate situation.
