The Four favorite Zhavia Ward and former One Direction member Zayn Malik have collaborated for a re-creation of the classic tune, “A Whole New World” for the live-action version of Aladdin.
In the video for the song, which will reportedly play during the end credits of the film, the singers are singing longingly to each other, while in separate locations in New York City. Their velvety voices match seamlessly, bringing an R&B twist to the Disney hit. Modern instrumentation starts and ends the track.
This wouldn’t be the first time the song has been covered. Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle performed the song for the original cartoon version of the film, and the song itself won an Academy Award for “Best Original Song.”
The live-action Aladdin drops at the end of May, and finds fan favorite Will Smith playing the iconic role of Genie. His version of the character, he notes, has an urban flair.
“I watched the movie a few times, I saw where Robin Williams infused the character with a timeless version of himself,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “So I said to myself, ‘What if I just infuse the character with a timeless version of myself?’ And then that opened up for me… hip-hop, it opened up fashion.”
