Clinton Sparks takes matters into his own hands as he rescues a group of women sold as sex workers, for his latest video “The Reaper.”
The cinematic production, which was directed and also stars Sparks, trails the Grammy-nominated DJ and his curly haired brunette girlfriend as they follow a shady character to Las Vegas. For the first few minutes of the five-minute clip, viewers assume it’s Sparks and his accomplice who may be on the wrong side of the law, but as the story unfolds, they soon realize Sparks intends to avenge his love’s honor.
While the video keeps fans glued to the screen, the music keeps their ears wide open. With verses from West Coast G’s, Problem and Snoop Dogg fans can rest assured all bases are covered with Sparks’ latest offering.
And while Sparks used his video to shed light on human trafficking –which reports estimate affect 100,000 to 300,000 underage girls, this video hits home for the Boston native as he reveals in an exclusive interview with VIBE he was molested as a child.
“Yeah, that happened to me for several years as a kid, so I can relate to the feeling of fear and not knowing what’s going to happen next, and when’s it going to be over and how bad is it going to get, ” Sparks said.
Sparks’ latest EP ICONoclast features verses from 2 Chainz, T.I. and Ty Dolla $ign. The songwriter teamed up with the non profit Not For Sale for this video in hopes he’ll be able to continue to to do what he’s always done.
“One of the things I do is help people, even as a DJ, I’m helping you escape the stress or to help you celebrate your birthday,” Sparks said. “My whole life is about evoking emotion and I’m being selfish by keeping this in and not sharing it. There could be somebody out there who hears my story and they see how happy and successful I am and say, ‘He did it, so can I’.”
A very noble and selfless act indeed. Watch Clinton Sparks’ video up top.
