It’s a beautiful thing when artists pull from a multitude of influences to create a work of art. When Gary Clark Jr. releases his newest music baby, The Story Of Sonny Boy Slim, expect some sonic curveballs to be thrown your way.

“I love hip-hop. I love the drums. I love the intensity of those sounds,” Clark says of one of the driving forces on the LP. It’s an energetic sound he hopes will differentiate this album from his previous well-received project, Blak and Blu. According to him, he wanted to “not necessarily go for the traditional typical sound that you would expect from some Texas guitar player” with Sonny Boy Slim.
