If you’re not familiar with rising Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter QUIÑ, the time to do so is now.
With a handful of songs housed Soundcloud that’s helped her amass a quaint following and a feature credit on G-Eazy’s “Think About You” from his sophomore album When It’s Dark Out, we’re witnessing the sonic evolution of QUIÑ: a once introverted gal who finally broke out of her shell after boyfriend and best friend drama drove her to a self-realizing epiphany in the form of music.
Ahead of her forthcoming debut EP Galactica, VIBE is premiering “OVER AGAIN,” a sampler of what’s to come from this promising chanteuse. The track flaunts QUIÑ’s burgeoning sound, which she’s coined “Fantasy Soul music.” The richness of her vocals feels relaxed and effortless, floating above the glimmering beat, all while channeling the universal theme of love’s gravitational pull.
“I wrote this song about a year ago about a mood I was in,” QUIÑ writes via emaill. “[I] listened back and was like, ‘Man, this is way too smooth, I gotta call G. We talked for a second and he hit me back with his side of the story the next day. The moral of the story is in the first line, ‘Never again, tell me you need me, if you cannot back it up’ and to back that up, ‘The remedy’s escape the memory,’ in case it becomes too hard to not obsess over, over and over again.”
