Trinidad James might actually be funnier than his Martin doppelgänger
Have we finally found a track that can contend with Drake’s “Started From The Bottom”; a song that seemingly invites every MC and their grandma to jump in the booth and deliver their own 16-bar rendition? Rocko’s “U.O.E.N.O.” is now looking like it’s headed to that ubiquitous territory (see the blissfully excellent Black Hippy version, which now stands as the gold standard) following highly controversial coverage ignited by Rick Ross’ lyrical ode to date rape. Now with a contrite Bawse out of the picture, a remix of the track—featuring rap star experiment Trinidad James—has hit the Internets.
James has been lambasted, and rightly so, for pulling off his I-just-started-rapping-yesterday gag, which shockingly ended up morphing into the breakout hit “All Gold Everything.” Say this much for the ATL fashion maven’s turn on “U.O.E.N.O.”: He brings the funny. One quip in particular—“Fuck ya momma like Ving Rhames…I might be yo step dad…you ain’t even know it!”—makes you wanna holler. Clever Baby Boy nods aside, James may not be aware that his 15 minutes are almost up, but he’s having the time of his life until the hubcaps fall off. Indeed, maybe he’s in on the joke, and we don’t even know it. —Keith Murphy (@murphdogg29)
