Acting as both performer and guest for the Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, Anderson .Paak delivered a live rendering of “Trippy” for the late-night crowd.
Paak held centerstage as he sat upon the drum throne while members of the Free Nationals surrounded him at all angles. Taking the Oxnard favorite out of its box, the 33-year-old’s artistry seeped into the roots of this hybrid jazz-funk and hip-hop creation. The Grammy-winning singer gave “Trippy” new legs with a trumpet solo meant to replace the lyrical talents of J. Cole.
During his stint as a guest, the “Cheers” rapper managed to allude to the possibility of a new collab album between himself and Dr. Dre, teasing the possibility that the pair has something new on the way for fans. “I made a lot of music with Dr. Dre, like, probably two albums worth and honestly it’s music that I really feel like getting out,” he stated.
Anderson .Paak’s Oxnard album came out Nov. 16 with collaborations from J. Cole, Q-Tip, BJ The Chicago Kid, and more. Paak is currently gearing up to take his newest album on tour, see if the funky rapper is coming to a city near you here.
