Jorja Smith takes fans on a trip in her picture book-themed video for “On My Own.” The single “On My Own” is pulled from the “Blue Lights” singer’s debut album Lost and Found, which received rave reviews and hit No. 3 on the UK charts.
The Rashid Babiker visual depicts a noticeably bored girl who happens upon a bright red Jorja Smith picture book. As the young girl begins to flip through the book, the first page reads “Return On or Before.” Badiker, who is credited with directing Smith’s “Teenage Fantasy,” had a goal to create a video from Jorja’s Lost & Found period that is “set a bit further into the future.”
The Lost and Found singer’s pictures spring to life, telling some sort of story. The stills used to comprise this bound book of photos contain abstract images of a vulnerable Smith. The song and its artwork capture the essence of an artist like Jorja Smith while making a bold statement about impact and artist of Smith’s caliber will have on the music industry long after she has retired.
