Travis Scott‘s video for “Stop Trying To Be God” was released on Monday (Aug. 6). In the Dave Meyers-directed visual, La Flame pays for his sins by facing God’s wrath. The visual comes just a few days after the release of Scott’s highly-anticipated third studio-album AstroWorld.
The video features religious imagery and references, such as Scott leading a herd of sheep, baptizing his followers in a pool where they come out cleansed, and a sermon where James Blake is found singing.
Kylie Jenner, Scott’s girlfriend and the mother of his daughter Stormi, is also featured in the video. She’s seen covered in gold, where she consoles Scott and also cradles a baby sheep. Jenner has been supporting her man throughout the album’s rollout, writing on Instagram that the album goes “hard” and that it’s been “the craziest ride of [her] life.”
The 17-track album features appearances from Frank Ocean, Drake, Tame Impala, The Weeknd, Pharrell, Nav and more. In “Stop Trying To Be God,” the instrumental stylings of Stevie Wonder can be heard throughout; the legendary musician is playing the harmonica. Production from Murda Beatz, Mike Dean, WondaGurl, Tame Impala, Thundercat, and Boi-1da is also featured on the album.
