Brooklyn’s Your Old Droog may not have his high school diploma, but his vocabulary still rivals Ivy League scholars. But his desire to better his living conditions and make something of his talent didn’t come easy. Like a lot of young people in America, there was a time when he was stuck in self doubt and the hamster-in-a-wheel cycle.
It wasn’t until the wordsmith recognized it was up to him — and only him — to get up, go out and get something. Now, Droog’s burgeoning rap career has him touring overseas with thousands of fans cheering his name.
With the We Made It NYC crew in tow, the BK emcee rolled back to his old stomping grounds to share stories about his younger days. Posted outside the building where he took GED courses (and smoked a blunt or two) he recalls his first battle, doing his research and how his friend A$AP Yams showed him the blueprint to getting on in rap.
