Didn’t Oprah retire last year?! Well, apparently she’s adopted the Jay-Z definition of “retirement.”
Despite the fact that she no longer hosts her popular daytime talk show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, O is still routinely making headlines for conducting interviews on her weekly show, Oprah’s Next Chapter, which runs on the Oprah Winfrey Network. Over the course of the last few months, she’s interviewed 50 Cent, members of the Miami Heat, and, most recently, Rihanna, who opened up about the love that she still has for Chris Brown during an interview that aired on Sunday night. Oprah isn’t stopping anytime soon, either. Just yesterday, we found out that she tried to book Lauryn Hill for an interview recently but that L-Boogie had turned her down.
We’re all for Oprah continuing to land big interviews. And, in fact, there are some people that we’d definitely like to see her talk to sometime in the very near future. From rappers who aren’t speaking to the press right now (anyone care to guess who that might be?) to singers who used to be involved with Rihanna (you’re an idiot if you don’t get this one), there are 5 People We’d Like To See Oprah Interview ASAP. We hope to see these folks on Oprah’s Next Chapter sooner than later.
The Interview: Chris Brown
Why We Want To See It: There are two sides to every story. And, Chris Brown obviously has one. So, we’d like to see Oprah talk to Breezy now that she’s had sat down and talked to Rihanna. Not only could she continue to push the conversation that she started on domestic violence when she talked to Rihanna, but she could also ask Chris his feelings on Rih-Rih. Plus, whenever Chris Brown sits down for a high-profile interview, something explosive happens (remember the bow tie and the incident at ABC?). So, O needs to make this happen. In fact, we’d be surprised if she hasn’t already started trying.
The Interview: Kanye West
Why We Want To See It: ‘Ye isn’t doing any press right now, and we’re not sure if he’ll ever do press again. As he said on “Mercy,” he gets plenty of press without actually doing it. But, we’re pretty sure he’d at least consider it for Oprah. And, if she could convince him to sit down with her, we know she’d be able to get him to open up about all sorts of things, including the death of his mother, his relationship with Kim Kardashian, and his hatred of the media right now. Because he’s done so little press recently, there would be a lot to cover.
The Interview: D’Angelo
Why We Want To See It: Guess who’s back? D’Angelo. And, while he has come out and talked about where he’s been for the last decade or so, he hasn’t done it in front of a bunch of cameras. So, when it’s time for him to do that, we hope Oprah has the sense to call his people to set up a sit-down. She could find out where he’s been, why it’s taken so long for him to come back to the game, and, most importantly, what he plans on doing with the rest of his life. His “next chapter” is just beginning. Let’s hope O captures it.
The Interview: Mariah Carey
Why We Want To See It: Although she hasn’t been completely off the radar since having her twins, she also hasn’t opened up a whole lot about motherhood, her relationship with Nick Cannon, and her current life as a celebrity. Now that she’s going to be a judge on American Idol and releasing a new album sometime soon, we assume she’s going to be doing more press. But, we doubt anyone will give her the same forum that Oprah would. We’d want to hear about some of the gossip going on with her as well as the stuff that she’s gone through in the last ten years. We’re sure there’s a lot of juicy stuff in there that Oprah could drag out of her.
The Interview: Rick Ross
Why We Want To See It: On the one hand, we want to see this simply for our own amusement. Rick Ross sitting down across from Oprah would be fun-knee! But, we also think that someone like Oprah, who has openly criticized rap music in the past, would really go in on Ross and ask him a lot of questions that he hasn’t been asked in the past. From his time as a correctional officer to the message he sends in his music, there’s a lot of things we’d like to see someone like Oprah ask a guy like Rick Ross. And, you know Ross isn’t turning down the chance to appear next to Oprah. So, she needs to make this happen!
