The midterm elections gave us history-making wins and some losses from promising gubernatorial candidates across the country like Florida’s Andrew Gillum and Georgia’s Stacey Abrams. The candidates have found support outside their state lines, including Texas’ Beto O’Rourke who has a fan in 6lack.
On Wednesday (Nov. 4), O’Rourke was met with wishes of a presidential run in 2020 after narrowly losing to Ted Cruz for a seat in the Senate. Thanks to O’Rourke’s moderate charm, grassroots approach (he visited all 254 counties in Texas with rented minivans) and big endorsements from former president Barack Obama and Beyonce, O’Rourke’s star is quickly rising. The 46-year-old thanked his supporters on Twitter, with the “Pretty Little Fears” artist encouraging him to run for president. Other musicians like Sara Bareilles and Khalid also sent support to O’Rourke.

In the past, O’Rourke has refused a battle as president in 2020 but a hashtag “Beto2020” kicked off on election night with other stars spreading the mission. Political analysts also see a possibility of O’Rourke being a strong contender against President Donald Trump.

“He’s been running the kind of campaign in Texas which is exactly what causes one to be successful in Iowa, which is going around to all of Iowa and sitting down and talking to folks,” said Bonnie Campbell, a former Iowa attorney general tells Politico.

My congratulations to the record numbers of women who rose to the challenge of restoring the balance. Also last night a Star was born: Beto O’Rourke: a smart and decent guy who very nearly turned Texas blue. There are great things in store for this budding Mr. Smith. pic.twitter.com/M0Dd3zS1ph

What Beto O'Rourke did in Texas was absolutely amazing and—while I'm certainly not announcing support for any candidate—I do believe, fervently, Beto should run for President of the United States in 2020.
100% serious. If he can get 48% in Texas, anything is possible nationally.
