Singer-songwriter Al B. Sure! took to Instagram to commemorate the influence and memory of Kim Porter. The pair were romantically linked in the early ’90s and produced a son, Star actor Quincy Brown. Through their relationship, Al B. Sure!, born Albert Brown, was inspired by Porter to pen one of Jodeci’s best-selling singles, “Forever My Lady.”
In tribute to Porter, Brown published a black-and-white photo of the pair with a heartbreak emoji and a caption reflecting on Jodeci’s aforementioned song. During an episode of TV One’s Unsung, Brown said he was encouraged to write the melody when he learned Porter was pregnant with Quincy.
“I remember they were working on the song and they couldn’t come up with the lyrics and Al looked at me and he was like, ‘So you’re having my baby,’ and I was like, ‘Ohhhh!'” Porter recalled. “Forever My Lady” went on to top the US R&B Chart and remains one of Jodeci’s most recognizable records.
