Alton Sterling is the newest name added to the ongoing list of black men and women killed by law enforcement. Tuesday night (July 5) video surfaced online of the Baton Rouge man being shot multiple times by two Louisiana police officers.
The uniform officers involved have since been placed on administrative leave. According to reports, the cops responded to a disturbance at the Triple S Food Mart because a man was allegedly selling CDs, carrying a gun and threatening people. An altercation ensued between Sterling and law enforcement which resulted in Sterling being, shot multiple times in the chest and back, according to the local coroner’s office.
News of 37-year-old Sterling’s death comes a little more than six weeks after Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards signed a “Blue Lives Matter” bill, which expanded the states hate crime statute to include the targeting of police officers, firefighters and EMS personnel.
After the gruesome video (below) of Sterling’s death surfaced, many online expressed frustration about the on-going violence against African-Americans in this country, as well as the sadness.
I will not be watching #AltonSterling‘s lynching. I don’t need further proof of the lethality of white supremacy.

When I first saw the #AltonSterling video, the reporter in me HAD to see the video. But the human in me wants to log off. Be human. Log off.

I hope members of Congress will do a sit-in for people who look like Alton Sterling and protest against police brutality.
