Current divorce proceedings aside, Amber Rose and Wiz Khalifa looked like they had a fairy tale wedding back in 2013. Pictures on the ‘gram showed a happy, flawless couple with baby Sebastian, friends and family in tow. However, unbeknownst to us, certain members of Amber’s family tree were missing in action on her big day.
In an interview for Light Girls—which is a follow-up to Dark Girls, the documentary on colorism within the black community—Amber reveals that older family members refused to come to the wedding because Wiz Khalifa is African-American. She is half Cape Verdean, half Italian, but some of her relatives feel that they are “more superior” and more cultured than African-Americans.
“I’m angry that my family is like that and they wanna ‘pass’ so bad that they raised my mom and my uncles and my aunts to not fully know their culture,” she said. “I feel like that’s why my father is white.”
That had to have been disappointing for the then-happy couple. Light Girls airs tonight (Jan. 19) at 9/8c on OWN.
