Remember that time Donald Trump said he has “many, many black supporters?” Well, no he actually has at least one in Anthony Mackie. During a press junket for his new film Our Brand Is Crisis, the actor – who plays a campaign manager for a presidential candidate – Mackie was asked whose race for the Oval Office he would want to run. Choosing between Hillary Clinton and Trump, Mackie went for the latter.
“I would 100 percent want to run Trump’s campaign. 100 percent,” he said. “I mean, first that’ll be the best party ever when he won, and second, Trump’s an easy sell… When you look at Trump, he’s an easy sell because you can sell him as the guy who worked his way up from nothing. And I think if you’re a ‘pull yourself up by your bootstraps’ candidate, people would identify with that.”
This is not the first time Mackie has shocked the masses by voicing an unpopular opinion. Back in January, the actor was probed about the film Selma being snubbed at the Oscars, and replied “People are just tired of being bombarded with race right now.” He also received backlash for comments he made about dreadlocks in that interview: “I’ll sit you down and I’ll watchThe First 48 with you and everybody you see on that show, that’s doing something wrong, they’re black dudes with dreadlocks.” Asked if his comments about Trump were an endorsement, Mackie’s reply set his thoughts in stone.
“I’m on the bandwagon. I’m drinking the Kool-Aid.”
