Ariana Grande’s latest album sweetener was released on Friday (Aug. 17), and her performance at the 2018 MTV VMAs capped off a great weekend for the pop singer.
The Florida native sang her latest single “God Is A Woman” at the event, which was held at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall.
During the mid-show performance of the empowerment anthem, Ari brought us to church, recreating Da Vinci’s ‘The Last Supper’ painting. She and her dancers get down to business between marble pillars and constellation effects. She also brought her mother and grandmother on stage at the end of the performance.
Grande is no stranger to the VMA stage. In 2016, she performed her song “Side To Side” with her frequent collaborator, Nicki Minaj. Minaj makes an appearance on sweetener during the track “The Light Is Coming,” and Grande sings on Minaj’s song “Bed,” featured on her latest album Queen.
Earlier in the night, Grande won a Moonman trophy for “Best Pop Video” for “No Tears Left To Cry.” In her acceptance speech, she thanked her fans, friends, family and her fiancé Pete Davidson for the support.
