Immediately following Hunter Hill First Baptist Church’s service on Sunday morning (Nov. 13), two brothers decided to turn themselves over to law officials for the reported fatal shooting of a 50-year-old man in Atlanta, Ga., WSB-TV reports.
On Thursday night (Nov. 10), Charlie McDaniel, 16, and Issac McDaniel, 15, were named as murder suspects after they engaged in a reported argument with longtime resident, Anthony Brooks, outside of a Shell gas station. The dispute stemmed from a recent string of carjackings.
Unbeknownst to the suspects, their mother planned for them to confess to officers after service was over. “I was saddened. I was shocked. It was like a whirlwind,” pastor Christopher Wimberly said once he became aware of the occurrence. “Both of them said, ‘We are not running. We’re turning ourselves in. We just came here for prayer.'”
Before being placed in police custody, Wimberly said he “prayed with them and their mother and the police took it from there.” Prosecutors have charged the brothers with murder, but have yet to decide if they will be tried as adults in court. “My hope for them is that they would get their lives turned around and get the right direction,” said Wimberly.
