
Two Georgia police officers were placed on administrative leave after they got into a fight over who would win in a race, resulting in one cop pulling out his gun, cause Atlanta.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the incident happened on Mar. 18 when officers Stephen Green and Joseph Tyer of the Atlanta Police Department’s High-Intensity Traffic Team met other cops at the R. Thomas Restaurant in Buckhead. As the two squabbled about who would beat each other in a race, the conversation quickly rose to fisticuffs when the officers squared up outside the establishment.
“I’m going to punch you in the face,” Tyer reportedly told Green. The officer said he was surprised by Tyer’s actions. As other officers tried to break up the fight, Tyer pulled out his weapon. Luckily, no shots were fired.
Officer Lukasz Sajdak, a spokesman for Atlanta police told the AJC an investigation will be launched into the incident. The department also released a statement on Thursday (Mar. 24.)
“The Atlanta Police Department takes these allegations very seriously,” the statement reads. “Chief [George] Turner has always prioritized officer accountability and professional behavior at all times. He will continue to take decisive action when necessary to hold his employees to the highest standard.”
Green has remained on administrative leave while Tyer resigned on Mar. 22. He had been with the APD since 2012.
