
Since July, August Alsina embarked on a health journey that has seemingly taken a turn for the better. During that month, the “Change” singer discussed his autoimmune disease, leading him to receive immunotherapy.
The New Orleans native shared that doctors have started him on a treatment regimen that’s similar to chemotherapy and assists the body’s immune system in producing healthy cells. “I’d be lying if I said it hasn’t been tough on my body, but there are necessary steps in order to make progress,” he wrote on Instagram. “Illness is so humbling & I often find myself singing this song of affirmation and motivation with y’all, whoever may need it.”
During a 2017 interview Jada Pinkett-Smith, Alsina said the disease mainly affects his liver “where my autoimmune system is fighting against itself. Reality is that I’m sick all the time. I don’t really like to talk about it because I’m not looking for anybody’s sympathy.” The illness reportedly is a hereditary condition, Alsina further explained.
