Long Island high school student Augusta Uwamanzu-Nna has a good problem on her hands. valedictorian has been accepted into all eight ivy league schools. Brown University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Columbia University, Princeton University, University of Pennsylvania along with Yale and Harvard all want Augusta to continue her studies with them.
And not to brag or anything, but Augusta, who was born in America to Nigerian immigrants, has also gained acceptance to NYU, Johns Hopkins University, MIT and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Augusta, who plans to pursue a science related major, credits her parents for instilling in her the importance of education, and says also visiting Nigeria helped to place her opportunities into perspective.
“Though I was born here in America, I visited Nigeria many times,” she told WABC. “And I’ve seen that my cousins don’t have the same opportunities that I have. So definitely, whatever I do, I want to make sure that it has an impact on Nigeria.”
School hasn’t always been an easy ride for the student, but she says it was her will power that kept her GPA–which is 101.6–up.
“I’ve struggled with numerous classes in the past,” Augusta told the station. “But I guess what allowed me to be successful, ultimately, in those classes, at the end, is my persistence and my tenacity.”
Congrats to Augusta.
