A man who appeared to be in his 30s was found frozen to death in a vacant home in The Bronx on Monday (Feb. 13), reports the New York Daily News. Authorities discovered him after they received a 911 call before 10:45 a.m.
The unidentified man suffered bruises to the head, a police report details. The NYPD is currently in the middle of an investigation concerning how he garnered those injuries. Reportedly, the home located on Bainbridge Ave. near E. 194th Street in the Fordham neighborhood was newly purchased. It’s believed the man was staying in the vacant home.
The city medical examiner’s office is still determining the cause of death. The house had a vacate order since July 2015, according to Buildings Department records, and the building was once used for illegal single room occupancy housing. Additionally, the building was in risk of collapsing, and in poor condition.
